Merciful Sound is the University of Liverpool’s own student-run record label.

 

The Department of Music founded Merciful Sound in 2019, with the ambition of teaching students about the practical strategies used to run a real record label. We are therefore fully run by students in the Department of Music, who make every key organisational and creative decision.

 

Merciful Sound’s debut release, 1, is available on all major music platforms on May 4 2021. 1 celebrates locally-based emerging artists, with a track each from craigcrook, The Moss Farm, Pilgrims, and Hanna Torunczak.

 

However, our label is not a record label in the traditional sense. As a student-run organisation, ethical practises are at the core of our aims: artists who agree to work with us are free to enter into any other contractual agreement. By discarding the exclusivity and restriction of a traditional label deal, Merciful Sound doesn’t deny any hopeful young artists future opportunities they may be given elsewhere.
